Tomboyama Nihonto Tanren Dojo is directed by Dragonfly Forge, home to swordsmith in the Japanese tradition Michael Bell, and his son and apprentice Gabriel Bell.

Michael and Gabriel Bell specialize in forging swords of forge-welded cable steel (also sometimes referred to as wire rope) in many forms, and also handmade steel, known as oroshigane.

Following in the tradition of Michael’s teacher, Nakajima Muneyoshi, who learned all of the Japanese sword arts, Michael and Gabriel also make koshirae for Japanese blades, as well as tsuka-maki.

Both smiths also enjoying forging,carving, and sculpting tsuba, especially pierced open-work tsuba, from antique wrought iron.
